Transportation Construction Inspector 1, 2, 3

Generally, under the supervision of a NYS Thruway Engineer-in-Charge, a Seasonal Transportation Construction Inspector will be physically assigned to one or more construction projects to perform the following construction or materials inspection or inspection-related tasks:
o Field Office Activities:
Completes and verifies lengths, areas, and volume to support authorization of payments to the contractor and performs other technical and engineering related office functions and paperwork as required. o Earthwork Inspection:
Inspects contractor's operations in building earth or rock embankments; conducts gradation test, compaction test and moisture content tests; checks thickness of layer of material placed and type and suitability of compaction equipment o On-Site Concrete Inspection:
Inspects contractor's operation in placement of concrete for pavements and for bridge piers and abutments; tests air content and slump test and obtains cylinders for subsequent load tests; inspects method of handling and placing concrete to minimize segregation, concrete finishing, and curing method on concrete paving operations, inspects paving trains to ensure a smooth pavement. o Structural Inspection:
Inspects contractor's erection of steel to ensure correct placement; inspects field welds and painting of steel. o Drainage Inspection:
Inspects contractor's operations in the installation of culverts, sewers and ditches; ensures excavation of trenches is done in a safe manner to proper alignment and grade, that correct material is placed and properly shaped, and that material and compaction of backfill over pipe is correct. o Asphalt Pavement Inspection:
Inspect contractor's placement of asphalt pavement; ensures temperature for placement is correct, lift thickness is in conformance and asphalt is properly compacted.

Salary Range:
From $18.94 to $23.41 Hourly
Minimum Qualification
Transportation Construction Inspector 1-- $18.94/hr One construction season (minimum of three months) of work experience in highway, bridge, or other civil engineering related construction inspection; or completion of at least a minimum of 27 semester credit hours of college course work as part of an associate degree program in engineering, engineering technology, construction technology, engineering science, surveying technology, drafting/CAD, or heavy equipment operations; or completion of at least 27 semester credit hours of college course work as part of a bachelor's degree program in engineering, engineering technology, environmental sciences or environmental technology, construction management, construction supervision, engineering management, construction engineering or construction engineering technology, transportation planning, mathematics, physical science, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture, surveying, physics, geology or forestry. Transportation Construction Inspector 2-- $21.03/hr Two construction seasons (minimum of six months total) of work experience in highway, bridge, or other civil engineering related construction inspection; or completion of an associate degree program in engineering, engineering technology, construction technology, engineering science, surveying technology, drafting/CAD, or heavy equipment operations; or completion of at least 54 semester credit hours of college course work as part of a bachelor's degree program in engineering, engineering technology, environmental sciences or environmental technology, construction management, construction supervision, engineering management, construction engineering or construction engineering technology, transportation planning, mathematics, physical science, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture, surveying, physics, geology or forestry; or completion of one construction season of work experience, as described in TCI 1 above, plus a minimum of 27 semester credit hours of college course work as part of an associate or bachelor's degree program as cited above. Transportation Construction Inspector 3-- $23.41/hr Completion of six months as a Transportation Construction Inspector 2; or completion of three months as a Transportation Construction Inspector 2 and completion of at least 81 semester credit hours of college course work as part of a bachelor's degree program in engineering, engineering technology, environmental sciences or environmental technology, construction management, construction supervision, engineering management, construction engineering or construction engineering technology, Transportation planning, mathematics, physical science, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture, surveying, physics, geology or forestry. A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State is also required.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
